About Us

With over 20 years experience in the transformative power of art engagement and balancing spaces, we help you to meet challenges with greater ease and joy.

Hi I’m Stephanie Gruss from Expressive Arts Space. Are you finding yourself stressed, overwhelmed, frustrated or challenged? Life is meant as a journey to come home in, yet many times when we experience difficulty, we disconnect from what matters most through judgment, protection or fear of the unfamiliar.

As your Expressive Arts Coach, I invite you to put logical problem-solving aside and engage in a right-brain activity. Through interacting with materials, painting, writing, movement or music you discover qualities of meaning and inner wisdom, possibilities unveil that weren’t accessible before.

Since years Expressive Arts has helped me to see new ways of being in the world. When I am dealing with physical challenges, words often fail to communicate my inner world, my story. For example, as I struggled to climb the stairs to an expressive movement class years ago, hearing the music had my body move with ease and grace versus pain. Wow, I was able to access qualities of aliveness and mobility. It allowed me to see, share and reshape my perspective of feelings, pain and limitation. It is this transformative power of the arts that I want to share with you to have more awareness, presence and connectedness in what matters.

While I was working with children with ASD, I recognized the need for subtleties of awareness to see them and interact with them. I describe this in my thesis (Encounter on the rainbow bridge), how expressive arts with a child and myself was a way to meet and access abilities of function such as developing language and relationship.

The creative process engages the whole of you. We make art as a phenomenon. Something tiny attracts you, a colour, a shape or a quality and you explore it with your senses like a child. Surprised, it reaches you in deeper levels of your self.

We harvest a work by using another form of art to make sense and make it real in our body and more tangible in the everyday.

As an artist I was once asked to create interactive theme spaces for self-therapy, evoking the imagination to shift negative beliefs. In a Feng shui consult we move the elements of a space to make it work for the people and activities as your designer, I use the arts to create environments in which you thrive like a few years back when I suggested to a mother who’s 7-year-old son was scared to enter the basement to paint a tree in the staircase with leaves made of things the son liked. A month later the mother shared that the son was now happily playing in the basement.

With training in psychotherapy (Humaniversity), Feng Shui Design (Kushi Institute) and an MA in Expressive Arts Coaching, Consulting and Education (European Graduate School) I helped families, companies, people with disability, chronic illness, seniors and children with special to be empowered.

“Twice Stephanie did a Feng shui consultation for me. What I found amazing was that she did the 2nd one over the phone, Germany – Canada. She did it as good and precise as the 1st one on site. By her intuition, incredible Feng shui knowledge and application of Interior design, she atunes herself to the people, the place and finds the right solutions. I can totally trust her with what she does. With her help the greatest jewel of my place became my small garden, which is so peaceful and colourful. A close friend said: “Wow, this is like a little Zen Garden.”

Our house felt lighter, less cluttered and we felt more relaxed and content after our sessions with Stephanie. We loved it, others commented on how nice it felt. We both had different needs of a space to work and relax in and by applying the suggestions for where to put our desks, bed, organize our downtime spaces, ‘do’ our ‘hobbies’, we both felt met by our ‘new space’. It’s fascinating and really helpful. You’ll discover things about yourself and your home and get suggestions you would never dream of that transform your experience of your space. No need to spend lots of money either!”

The house felt before like we just moved in, it wasn’t tailored to our needs. As per suggestion by Stephanie, we moved my husbands office from the basement to the abundance area of the house and the fish tank from the middle to the career area. The result, my husband got a raise, an inheritance and more daily benefits and working mostly out of town is now part of the family. We sleep better. Our son is going to bed easier, being more comfortable in his bedroom and computer study room, feels stronger seeing who comes in. I started yoga having a space now to do it. I like my work looking out a window not backing towards upcoming stairs.
