Clearing Stagnancy and Clutter with Feng Shui

Clearing out Stagnancy in our Life

What holds us back to be in goodness?

It seems like there are these places in our home that always gather clutter more than others. In my own home it is 1st of all the dining table as that is the first surface to drop the amounts of post and newspapers that enter our house everyday. When the papers are there, we leave other things and in no time the table is a mess. Then there is my office table, especially the one that is in the walkway of the room. Where are your dumping areas of the house located?

Your House as a Map of your Body

Feng Shui sees the house as an organism that compares to the human body.

  • The basement of any house is related to the unconscious
  • Its ground floor to the lower part of the body
  • Its second level to the upper body part
  • And the attic to the head.

In general on one level clutter on top of cupboards creates mental confusion, in upper cupboards blocks our expression from the heart and breathing. Near the ground it interferes with our forward movement and flexibility. The occurrence of clutter or stagnating energy in our space reflects our own procrastination: mental, emotional and physical blockages influencing our everyday productivity, body’s health and long term our success and clarity.

We are unconsciously limiting our self-expression and keep busy with superficial things and excuses to avoid reality.

Dealing with Crowded Areas

One time I had a client and her whole house was clean and clear until at the very end she dared to show me her office which was located in the career area of the house. It was so full of things that one could not open the door properly. One of the issues she called about were career challenges of her and her partner. It brought up incredible feelings of overwhelm how to start sorting and dealing with it among the many other duties. This is very common to many of us and the first important step is the willingness to actually go right into the feeling of overwhelm, which hides the pain when felt explaining the holding onto clutter in the first place.

Feeling right into the pain offers the ability to dissolve it. Deeper is the love and that will help us to actually declutter. Temporary crowded areas picked up every other day are in our complex life’s a task we learn to live with. Yet in the moment we avoid cluttered areas, it indicates stagnation.

How Clutter Slows You Down

During a consultation of a home office my client and I found out that most of her office refill material was stored in a wall cupboard high up on the south wall left to her desk. She hated that corner, the cupboard and the content too, as it was visible through the milky glass. The south in Feng Shui corresponds to the element fire which represents reputation and living our visions. The weight of the cluttered cupboard blocked her inspiration to write.

She found a new place to store her refill. To energize the south corner we found beautiful paintings of the four seasons and an inspirational writing by her mother that had encouraged her to the present form of work. She also created her yearly dream map and hung it on the South West wall of that corner which opened up. Her desk we switched to face the South wall having her back in a empowering position facing the door and having light coming from the side instead the front.

Clearing the area gave her more sense of calmness and peace. She noticed her elbows stopped hurting and she feels now more focussed, inspired and productive.

Cluttered Emotions

Clutter appears on different levels. On a day to day basis we are confronted with physical, emotional and mental clutter. Emotional clutter can in some cases be quite hidden. The way it showed up for a client in Germany once was that he felt sad every time being in his bedroom. Being a man he was not used to that feeling and the need to cry. He shared with me that his former wife often went into the bedroom and after a while started crying.
With further exploration, I got connected to an older lady in the spirit world and asked my client whether an older lady had lived in the apartment before and he confirmed that. This older lady seemed quite lonely, depressed and sad and lived in this place for a long time.

Her unresolved emotions were still lingering in the energetic body of the flat and especially the bedroom where she spent most of her time. After a clearing ceremony the flat and particularly the bed room felt much more peaceful. The client felt exited to make the place his own not being dragged into some unrelated emotion. I believe we experience everything for a reason to learn and grow. Yet there comes a moment to discern, when we are stuck in a repetitive pattern which causes a chain reaction of circumstances. Then it is time for clearing.
